**About this role**
The Head of Skills SA is a newly created position that will be highly influential in leading the South Australian Government’s ambitious agenda for vocational education and training to meet the needs of industry and communities - for the benefit of all South Australians.
This role is responsible for supporting a responsive and high-quality vocational education and training (VET) eco-system and will act as a single point of leadership to ensure that the Government’s approach to VET strategically responds to the workforce capability needs of industry and employers, so that learners and workers have clarity about career pathways.

As a key advisor to the Minister for Education, Training and Skills and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will establish strategic networks and collaborative partnerships with outcomes that influence the economic, policy, service delivery and growth agenda at a whole of government level. This role will provide thought leadership and strategic policy advice that informs cross-jurisdictional outcomes and influences across States and Territories and with the Commonwealth government. Central to this advice is enabling investment priorities locally so that South Australians have the skills for today and jobs of the future.
Additionally, the Head of Skills, as a key member of the senior executive team, will align the priorities of the division to the department’s broader agenda and will foster multidisciplinary ways of working to ensure the department is integrated in its response to training and skills from school through to adult education. This role will mentor, lead, and develop a team of 5 Director level positions and oversee the leadership of 150 employees.
**The skills and capabilities we are looking to engage with**
- Highly developed management and leadership skills with experience in leading teams and establishing a culture of performance, professionalism, and continuous improvement to drive excellence.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively, facilitating partnerships and enabling effective working relationships and demonstrated success in achieving results through collaboration and influence.
- Demonstrated ability to shape strategic policy thinking, critically analyse systemic issues and understand interdependencies to drive change and achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen to effectively deliver and/or commission services and act as regulator to achieve quality results that provide value for money service delivery and community.
**The essential requirements for this role**
- An appropriate tertiary qualification including post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline or relevant experience.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the training and skills sector.
- Experience leading in a large and complex organisation at an executive level.
- Experience acting as a key advisor to the Government.
- You must have, or be able to obtain, a Department of Human Services’ Working with Children Check.

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN -EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
