Working under the South Australian Skills Act, the South Australian Skills Commission (SASC) was established in 2021 to help make the state's skills system better geared towards the challenges of current and emerging workforce needs. The South Australian Skills Commissioner leads the Commission. The Commissioner is responsible for advising the Minister for Education, Training and Skills on key issues relating to skills and workforce development, industry perspectives from employers and unions, Vocational Education and Training (VET), Apprenticeships and Traineeships.

With the mission to create a robust and highly skilled relevant workforce, the Commissioner leads in the context of significant national reforms across the skills system, including strategic oversight, regulatory, complaint handling and advocacy roles. Central to the role is bringing together industry (employers and unions), training providers and government to address the current and future skills needs of South Australia.

With demonstrated experience in advising senior government leaders in matters of state or national significance, you will have a track record of influence in the context of public sector, government, skills, industry or advocacy organisations. Gravitas to build and maintain strong relationships with media, industry, training providers, unions and other stakeholders is essential. High level understanding and knowledge of the relevant legislative frameworks and their political environments is important. Knowledge and understanding of VET and Adult Community Education (ACE) is required, alongside a track record of successful negotiation and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
