**Career Medical Officer - Emergency Medicine**

**Ballina District Hospital**

An exciting opportunity is available at **Ballina District Hospital **for an **Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officer (CMO)**. The successful applicant will have a minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in emergency medicine / critical care medicine and will be required to participate in a 24/7 roster, including day, evening or night shifts.

The CMO will be responsible with providing independent, high level medical care, including the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. They will be supervised by specialist staff and provide supervision and support to the Junior Medical staff in the Emergency Department.

This position also serves to support the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.

**Where you'll be working**
The Ballina District Hospital (BDH) sees over 14,000 presentations per annum. The Emergency Department is a 9 bed unit staffed by a highly qualified medical team of Career Medical Officers, Emergency Specialists, and Nursing staff providing care to patients of all ages with critical and acute illnesses.

BDH works closely with other facilities within the Northern NSW Local Health District, and if necessary, patients may be transferred to another site for continuing care. The Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.

Our region encompasses World Heritage listed rainforests and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This area is blessed by year-round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter. From lush hinterland villages, to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.

**What you'll be doing**

The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff, and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.

The position also serves to support the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.

- A minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in emergency medicine / critical care medicine

- Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures (including endotracheal intubation and insertion of central lines, arterial lines and intercostal catheters), interpreting patient history, physical examination, pathology, ECG and radiological investigations to diagnose simple and complex Emergency Medicine presentations.
