**_The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) is actively looking for a VMO Gastroenterologist Zero Hours Reliever who will provide short term leave coverage of Staff Specialist Gastroenterologists at Wollongong, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven District Memorial hospitals within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District on an as needs basis._**

ISLHD leadership is strongly committed to facilitating clinical research. Tangible evidence of this commitment is the significant investment in the infrastructure to support research. ISLHD has a well
- developed research support unit that offers staff an extensive range of research support services including; assistance in the development of the research study design, biostatistics support, data analysis, and help writing final research publications, as well assistance with the ethics and governance processes.

The VMO Gastroenterologist will be offered outpatient clinics, and/or procedure lists. As this is a leave relief position there is no ability to build a wait list. The Gastroenterologist will need to communicate well with the consultant staff, verbally and digitally, and are welcome to attend the hospital's Gastroenterology multidisciplinary meetings.

The Gastroenterologist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Gastroenterology service in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD).

In addition, the Gastroenterologist will be responsible for the provision of specialist Gastroenterology services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients.

The Gastroenterologist will ensure provision of high-quality Gastroenterology services to all patients within the ISLHD and will proactively:

- Support the development of Gastroenterology services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
- Support and develop Gastroenterology research within the department

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region - a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the North to North Durras in the south with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 staff.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

**Selection Criteria**
- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Physicians (FRACP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition with accredited training in gastroenterology.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
