**Position Information**:
Illawarra Sports High School is situated on Dharawal country in the Wollongong suburb of Berkeley. Its partner primary schools include Berkeley, Berkeley West and Farmborough Road Public Schools. The school's FOEI (Family Occupation and Education Index) is 139. The school has a 5 class Autism support unit. 138 students, or 15% of the total enrolment are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students and the school has a history of supporting Aboriginal culture including providing Aboriginal Studies.
Illawarra Sports High School is a partially selective sports high school with a student enrolment of 911, drawing talented athletes from Kiama in the southern Illawarra region to Stanwell Park in the north. A local comprehensive high school, ISHS has approximately 40% of students enrolled in the Talented Sports and Development Program.
The school has a very committed teaching and non-teaching staff and has an established reputation for sporting success and a growing reputation for emphasising high expectations of all students. This continuous focus is on all aspects of student development and achievement.
The buildings and grounds offer some great learning facilities including a multi-purpose gymnasium, strength and conditioning centre, numerous laptop hubs, synthetic sporting field, high standard football and rugby fields, modern library, plus metals and engineering trade training centre. We have established a wide range of learning partnerships with the University of Wollongong, NSW Sport associations, local sporting clubs, Sydney FC and a language partnership with a sister school in Indonesia.
One of our greatest strengths as an educational community is our willingness to embrace student diversity including the highly successful integration of five autism support classes within the school and a growing refugee student community.

- Understanding of the complexities of student wellbeing with a proven capacity to lead improvements for all students.
- Proven capacity to build authentic connections and collaboration to support educational access, increase attendance and retention rates and provide high quality post school pathways for all young people.
- Visionary, collaborative, strategic and supportive leadership with the ability to lead the evolution of an innovative and highly successful Talented Sports and Development Program in the context of a local comprehensive high school.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
