Hays has partnered with a Council in Western Sydney to find experienced Animal Services Officers to join their Animal Management team on a casual, ongoing basis.

**Your new role**
- Ensure tasks are carried out to meet customer and business needs within nominated time frames.
- Seize and or impound companion animals in compliance with legislative requirements and Council’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure animals collected, received and housed at the Animal Holding Facility (AHF) are treated humanely.
- Facilitate the surrender of companion animals and the impounding of livestock at the AHF or elsewhere within Council boundaries.
- Reunite animal owners with their pets as quickly as possible.
- Attend to customer enquiries, as required.
- Educate animal owners on provisions of legislation which affects them.
- Educate the community on microchipping and lifetime registration as required under the Companion Animals Act 1998.
- Provide ready access for the community to pet care information and advice.
- Recommend remedial training for nuisance dogs.
- Implement Council’s animal management practices and procedures, their effectiveness in meeting the needs of animal owners in the wider community.
- Promote the image of Council in dealings with residents and users of the AHF.
- Draft reports and correspondence, as required.
- Clean animal collection vehicles, trailers, kennels and equipment as directed and maintain to a satisfactory condition at all times.
- Ensure all equipment in the AHF is secured to protect from vandalism.
- Ensure the clean and healthy presentation of the AHF.
- Liaise with staff at all levels of the organisation and members of the public, as required.
- Investigate and act upon complaints received related to the position in accordance with nominated performance criteria.
- Liaise with local Police, as required.
- Attend and represent Council at Court, as required.
- Undertake scheduled workplace learning programmes.
- Clean blockages in parts of sewerage system where disassembly is required and direct contact with raw sewerage is unavoidable if required.
- Other duties as directed by the management team within the scope of the employee’s competencies and skill set.

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Formal qualifications or a demonstrated high level of experience in animal management or similar regulatory environment.
- A high level of experience handling companion animals.
- A sound knowledge and understanding of animal care and welfare issues.
- High level oral and written communication skills, including sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Current class C driving licence.

**What you'll get in return**

You will receive up to $35/hr + loading and the opportunity to work at Sydney's premiere animal holding facility. While this opportunity is casual and ongoing, there is a chance this role will go permanent.
