Design Coordinator

Gold Coast Light Rail has transformed public transport on the Gold Coast, helping create an integrated network that connects more people to more places in one of Australia's most dynamic and fastest growing cities.

John Holland is GoldlinQ's recommended design and construction contractor for GCLR3, to extend the existing light rail network by 6.7 kms from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stations, two new light rail-bus connections, and intersection upgrades along the alignment.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, and the City of Gold Coast, this city-shaping project will link communities to business centres, shopping, dining, education and medical facilities and cater to the Gold Coast’s expected population growth in the coming decades.

**About the Role**:
We are currently recruiting for a Design Coordinator with water and wastewater design experience to prepared design packages for the approval of City of Gold Coast Water and Wastewater.

Responsibilities of the role include.
- Plan and control the delivery of project design to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and project objectives
- Select and engage, then monitor the performance of external design partners within the discipline including their deliverables, costs and timeframes
- Manage the design approval process in accordance with project requirements and program
- Prepare budgets and schedules of design delivery for management approval then manage and report the cost of design delivery in the project life cycle
- Manage design to ensure the cost of the works meets project requirements
- Demonstrate commercial and contractual awareness in dealing with clients and external design partners
- Manage client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the project team
- Supervise the work of subordinate design and drafting staff to ensure project requirements are met
- Foster the interaction between design and construction teams to maximise innovation and project success.
- Ensure that JH Safety in Design requirements are met.
- Monthly design and construction status updates for PUP assets to be relocated, protected or monitored on the project.
- Review of interfacing design packages (civil, rail) in proximity to water and wastewater assets.
- Engagement of external design partner to develop work method statements for construction works in proximity to water and wastewater assets.
- Facilitate City of Gold Coast Water and Wastewater (CoGC W&W) endorsement of work method statements, including monitoring of implementation through construction.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures

**What we're looking for**:

- Tertiary Qualification in Architecture, Building, Construction, Engineering or Quantity Surveying
- 5+ years’ in technical management roles on significant projects
- 5+ years’ Design experience
- 5-8 years’ in Construction experience
- Multi-discipline project experience in Building, Construction and Design
- Proven commercial and legislative compliance skills and design frameworks and systems
- Demonstrated competencies in Head Contract and Subcontract understanding and interpretation
- Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements
- Strong stakeholder management with major consultant partners
- Awareness of risk management principles and how design can impact operational risk
- Proficient skills in relevant computer software packages and necessary to perform the role
- Strong time and cost management skills in timely delivery of design and management of both the costs of preparing design and the costs of the works
