**POST-TENSIONING (AND CABLE STAY) SUPERVISOR - DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION OF SPECIALISED BRIDGES (BRISBANE)**

**Overview of position**:
Rizzani de Eccher Australia Pty Ltd is performing specialized engineering and supervision works on the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge (KPGB) in Brisbane, within the Connect Brisbane consortium led by BESIX Watpac for the Brisbane City Council.

The KPGB is quite unique in Australia, being an iconic, very long-span, pedestrian and cyclist slender cable-stay footbridge, very sensitive to wind and dynamic footfalls. On this structure, the specialized skillset offered by Rizzani de Eccher in the management of temporary works, the coordination of the site and engineering control measures required by analysis of the construction stages, and the know-how in the performance of complex heavy-lift operations with steel and precast concrete structures in coordination with very niche activs in the area of cable-stays and post-tensioning activities, is definitely a critical defining factor in the engineering development and construction process.

Site experience on similar projects, with use of Post-Tensioning (PT), cable-stays and custom-made equipment and materials (such as sledge plates with hydraulic jacks, use of copyrighted mono-strand and multi-strand jacks, grouting, cable dampers, etc.) is key to the safety and ultimately the success of the project. It must be noted that cable-stayed bridges are not very common and the activities related to those works are very high-risk and require very specific knowledge. The main specific expertise required now by the Connect Brisbane consortium from Rizzani de Eccher consists in the secondment of a skilled and technical site supervisor to ensure that the cable-stay system (material and equipment), designed and supplied by specialized company Tensa on the basis of the design and project specifications, will be followed properly by the personnel on site in line with the prescriptive construction sequences and load transfer stages, in coordination with all the other activities that are linked to this process (steel installation, adjustments, concrete pouring, tensioning, etc.) A more detailed breakdown of the specific tasks is described here under.

**Duties**:

- Assist Technical Department with finalization of Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Threading, Tensioning and Grouting Procedures in accordance with Design Specs, Technical Requirements (permanent works and temporary works) and Project Specifics under close coordination with Engineers to ensure that the selected methodologies are safe and efficient
- Plan the cable-stay works (about 100 tons total) including uncoiling, pre-assembly, lifting, threading, tensioning, checking, adjusting, grouting and final inspections, on a weekly and also daily basis, including requesting plant, consumables and resources to maintain schedule together with the Subcontractors and Engineers
- Supervise and organize the teams involved in the cable-stay works, including handling and installation of specific custom-made and copyrighted material (i.e. tensioning jacks, anchor heads, dampers), and specific site coordination in accordance with the required engineering requirements, including checklists, ITP’s and tensioning sign-offs, where and as needed by site procedures
- Train the technical and operational staff in the operating of the specialised equipment such as jacks, post-tensioning strands and heavy-lifting interfaces, going through each single type the typical installation cycle that has been designed and planned to occur on site, including verification of competency (VOC) as and if required
- Supervise the operation of cable-stay works, from handling to installation and ultimately tensioning and adjustment, up until cable damper installation and commissioning, during the entire duration of the site installation works and help troubleshooting any maintenance, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical issues that may arise
- Prepare the daily site reports and the resources records
- Regular attendance and support to WHS and Environmental activities and initiatives, such as pre-start, toolbox, site walks, various KPI’s, etc.
- Performance monitoring on production cycles and explore possibilities of improvement (or repairs) through modification of Design (RFI’s) and/or optimization of work-fronts or equipment through discussions with Engineers
- Liaise regularly and proactively with Construction Manager, Site Superintendent, Subcontractor and the other Site/Project Engineers or Supervisors for any item related to coordination with other disciplines, resources and progress in relation to any issue or achievement for the general site activities, design, procurement, overall time and costs, commercial, etc.
