**Who are we looking for?**
We are seeking a Chair, University Biosafety Committee to join Office of Research Ethics and Integrity, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.
The Chair, University Biosafety Committee (UBC) oversees the function of the QUT UBC, and ensures compliance with biosafety legislation including the Gene Technology Act 2000 (the Act) and Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZ 2243.3 Safety in laboratories Microbiological safety and containment. The position is located within QUT's Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) and reports to the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research) through the Director, Office of Research Ethics and Integrity. The role will work closely with the Director, OREI and the Senior Biosafety Officer, and will receive administrative support from the Committees Officer. The position regularly interacts with other stakeholders across the University including senior management.

Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) supports researchers by providing education, guidance, process and advice for research ethics, biosafety and responsible research practices to embed a high quality research culture at the University..
**What you need to succeed**
- A research doctorate or equivalent with extensive experience in a scientific field relating to genetically modified and high risk non-Genetically Modified biological material.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Gene Technology Act 2000, AS/NZ 2243.4, and other national and international guidance related to biosafety.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and to Chair senior level committees that involve complex decision making and policy formation in an effective and efficient manner.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-level advice to stakeholders to promote awareness and knowledge of biosafety and regulatory frameworks that govern research with biological materials.
- Demonstrated high level communication, consultation and mediation skills with an ability to communicate effectively and influence a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team and to adopt a flexible work approach.
- Personal attributes of integrity, tact, sound judgement and respect for confidentiality.
