The Children's Health Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee (CHQ HREC) is registered with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and reviews the ethical and scientific validity of proposed research. The CHQ HREC is certified to review multicentre studies conducted at CHQ and in all other States and Territories of Australia.
**Your Opportunity**:
A pivotal role within the Children's Health Queensland Research Directorate, the CHQ HREC Chair ensures CHQ is recognised for excellence in research through the provision of expert and definitive advice on ethical review and the responsible conduct of research to the CHQ Board, Health Service Chief Executive Officer (HSCE), CHQ Executive Leadership Team, CHQ committees, clinical streams, and national and state-wide forums.
**The Chair, CHQ HREC**:
is a key leader within the CHQ Research Directorate, collaborating with clinical and corporate service leaders to ensure the CHQ HREC (HREC) (EC00175), meets and adheres to National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) requirements and that all research conducted within CHQ is of the highest ethical and scientific standard.
exercises significant autonomy and utilises extensive technical knowledge to lead and guide the ethical review of complex human research projects in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2023 ('National Statement').
Leads the development and maintenance of a culture of ethical research conduct, providing expert analysis and advice to the CHQ Executive Director Medical Services, the Director of Research, and the CHQ Executive Leadership Team, to ensure that research is aligned to service outcomes and strategic priorities and is achieved in a sustainable and cost-effective manner. This includes overseeing and optimising the delivery of safe, high quality, timely and affordable research services through effective leadership, management, and governance.
collaborates with clinical leaders and researchers to ensure the CHQ HREC operates to the highest capacity to enable the ethical review of research, including complex multidisciplinary and multi-centre research and high-risk clinical trials.
