Purpose of specific work area and position
The Community Infrastructure Branch (CIB) is a centralised branch providing policy and direction to frontline officers working in regions to ensure the services delivered across Queensland are consistently adding value to the community. CIB units operate cohesively through the building life cycle from building design stage through to demolition stage and maintain fire safety for the entire life cycle of every Queensland building.
The Fire Safety Section's responsibility is to reduce the risk and cost of fire to the community by ensuring buildings and their occupants, contents and functions are protected by properly implemented and maintained fire safety measures by providing strategic policy and direction to the regions; liaising with other government departments and agencies to improve and develop building legislation; and engaging with various building fire safety industry bodies and groups with the focus of enhancing fire safety in general.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing the strategic direction, development and implementation of Community Safety Operations education, products and training programs and contribute to innovative strategies and solutions to training delivery and assessment (e.g. e-learning alternatives, new and emerging technologies and blended learning techniques) for Building Approval Officer's, Safety Assessment Officer's, Fire Investigation Officer's and other trainers, including development of a statewide training calendar to meet service delivery and best practice requirements.
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from Fire and Rescue Service operational staff in conjunction with the current generic Inspector role description(see additional information below).

Primary duties
In addition to the generic Inspector, FRS role description, the purpose of the Manager, Fire Safety includes but is not limited to:
- Manage and oversee the continual evaluation, review and enhancements made to Community Safety Operations products, services, training and delivery methods to ensure they meet changing community, legislative and organisational needs.
- Develop, review and monitor relevant policies and procedures to enhance training capability and ensure programs meet changes in legislation, regulation and standards in line with departmental requirements.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of relevant education and training legislation, policies and procedures and contribute to the strategic direction of statewide initiatives.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to provide expert advice relating to Community Safety Operations product content, legislative requirements, training strategies and outcomes.
- Prepare and review correspondence, briefs and resources, including timely coordination to ensure consistency across program development and delivery.
- Represent QFES on interdepartmental committies relevant to program initiatives and liaise, coordinate and/or collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure consistency across program development and delivery.
- Fully embed Community Safety Operations across all levels and functional areas of QFES, and ensure staff and external stakeholders acquire and maintain skills within the required timeframes, to the required operational service delivery standards and produce high quality community safety outcomes.
Additional information
- Hold the rank of substantive Inspector or suitably qualified Station Officers are encouraged to apply.
- Hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification or can obtain the skill within a mutually agreed timeframe.
- Have proven commitment to maintaining competencies and receive specialist training and operate in a team environment.
- Incumbent's will be required to travel and work within the area of responsibility and may also be required to undertake intrastate, interstate deployment travel as required.
- This is a day work position and depending on regional requirements may require flexible hours of work to meet functional demands, including working at night on weekends as part of the role.
- Officers appointed to this position may participate in a personal professional development programs developed in conjunction with their supervisor.
