Your Responsibilities

As the Family Support Coordinator, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Build and sustain positive relationships and effective partnerships with children, families and carers, school staff, government agencies and community services, and facilitate family led decision making processes to ensure optimum outcomes for children and their families.
Respond to individual needs of children, and their families and carers to provide support to transition to school, establish good patterns of attendance and behaviour and maintain engagement in learning.
Work with classroom teachers, teacher aides and specialist support staff to understand the child's needs and connect their families and carers with services, such as health, therapeutic and developmental interventions to support engagement with learning.
Work with and support the needs of vulnerable children from diverse and complex backgrounds, including First Nations young persons with disability and young persons in care.
Build local capability within schools to strengthen engagement with children and their families and carers, improve the quality of classroom learning adjustments and broker multi-agency support.
Identify children and families and carers needing assistance to access specialist interventions early and facilitate strong connections with school and linkages to other services, including supporting engagement with the NDIS.
Support family and carer capacity building to assist their child's learning, development and wellbeing, ongoing engagement in school, and assist state schools to respond to the complex needs of children and their families and carers.

Highly desirable but not mandatory experience

Highly desirable but not mandatory experience is:
Relevant TAFE or university qualification in youth work or a related field.
Demonstrated experience working in a culturally responsive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, or a willingness to undertake training in culturally appropriate approaches.
Knowledge of the local region's demographics, service providers, and agency support systems is highly regarded.
