We are seeking a talented graduate to join our growing Canberra team as a **Communications Executive. **We are also open to hearing from students in their final year of study who are keen to explore part-time work (3 days per week).

**Jobs, tasks and responsibilities**
A Communications Executive will undertake a wide range of work across a variety of clients and help promote SEC Newgate’s capabilities.

As part of the SEC Newgate Canberra team, you will have the opportunity to work on complex issues for government, not-for-profit and corporate clients.

You will be a core team member who will contribute to strategic advice and provide implementation support to client briefs on complex communications challenges - this includes, issues management, government relations, media relations, community and stakeholder engagement, market and social research and digital communications. You will have the opportunity to grow your skills and career with access to skilled senior consultants.

**A snapshot of what you can expect**:

- Directly supporting the team on Communications, Government Relations and Public Affairs issues
- Drafting of memos and client communications
- Parliamentary and political monitoring and analysis
- Media monitoring and analysis
- Desktop research to support client briefs
- Assisting with proof-reading and formatting documents
- Logistics support for client work, meetings and functions
- Actively developing a solid understanding of communications, public affairs and client management practices
- Note-taking and initial drafting of documents
- Working across multiple client briefs concurrently
- Preparation of client activity reports with input from the broader team

**Ideally, you are**:

- An individual with a keen interest in communications, current affairs, government, and the media
- Collaborative and adaptable: You will have a can-do attitude and great interpersonal skills. A willingness to learn is a must
- Curious and proactive: Capable of identifying opportunities to progress projects for clients and promote SEC Newgate
- Calm and dedicated: Ability to balance multiple deadlines for clients. You are keen to provide the best support to clients.
- Organised with an eye for detail, and have solid time management skills
- Able to contribute effectively and constructively to the team
- Committed to professional development, taking on board feedback when provided and attending internal Professional Development sessions
- Keen to positively contribute to culture and values to embody The SEC Newgate Way
- Willing to work across multiple practice areas or current areas of work

**Your practical skills and experience should include**:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Law, Politics or Social Science (in progress or completed)
- Strong writing capabilities - the confidence and ability to write clearly and succinctly
- Strong analytical skills to absorb complex and technical information and turn it into clear and concise information
- Organisation skills - capable of setting up and adhering to your own system of structuring your workday, prioritising tasks, methodically completing regular tasks and proactive working on the implementation of communications plans
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and listening skills
- Positive approach with a good sense of humour
- A genuine and keen interest in current affairs, government and the media is a must
