**Risk Specialist, Banking Regulation**
APRA’s mandate is to protect the Australian Community by establishing and enforcing prudential standards and practices designed to ensure that, under all reasonable circumstances, financial promises made by institutions we supervise are met within a stable, efficient, and competitive financial system.
To help us deliver on our mandate and strategic priorities, we have an opportunity for an experienced risk professional with a strong understanding of the banking industry and trends. This important role leads, designs and executes prudential supervision and risk assessment assignments across a defined group of supervised organisations. The role would see you collaborate with a team of experts to identify risks and engage first-hand with the executive team at the supervised organisation to mitigate and remediate these risks.
Capabilities & Experience:
- monitor the financial position and outlook of financial institutions;
- assess general as well as specific risks in financial institutions and their control systems;
- manage problem situations and at-risk institutions;
- research and develop strategies to manage emerging prudential risks;
- engage closely and pro-actively with supervised institutions to ensure that actions to protect depositors are followed;
- critically assess both financial and non-financial material to identify the key prudential issues;
- produce succinct, accurate and timely briefings and documents, requiring mínimal editing, for executives and senior management;
- demonstrate strong relationship management skills through meeting and managing external executive level stakeholders;
- and work collaboratively with key stakeholders and specialists across APRA.

To be successful you will have a Banking and/or Risk Management background, strong financial analysis, investigative and research skills, have previously demonstrated a strong ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels of business, and strong business acumen. You will have well-developed business writing skills, a keen eye for detail, and strong organisational and priority management skills. You will have a positive mindset with an innovative approach to problem solving. Qualifications in a finance-related discipline are essential.
