Our Chatswood Donor Centre is seeking a Donor Services Nursing Assistant (Phlebotomist) who has fantastic customer-facing experience and a genuine passion to deliver an exceptional service to our Donors. As a Nursing Assistant, you will support our Donors through their donation process, while working collaboratively to achieve collection targets. A day in the Centre, could see you:
Greet and interview potential Donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
Set up machines, various tubing and collection bags
Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
Monitor Donors post-donation and assist them to rebook for their next donation

Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Sunday

About the Role
The Donor Services Nursing Assistant (DSNA) role is focused on maximising our Donor’s generosity and providing a great donor experience. Your role is to effectively and efficiently support the various stages of donor contact and support activities, whilst at the same time adhering to the strict regulations that govern the collection and production of blood and blood products.
This role assesses donor eligibility as well as inserting and removing needles to collect blood donations. It continually looks for ways to optimise work processes, actively learning and adapting approaches to achieve great outcomes. Always acting with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm with the ability to relate openly and comfortably with everyone.

The key focus for the Donor Services team is on maximising the Donor’s generosity and providing a great donor experience. The key role of any Centre is to effectively and efficiently take our donors through the donation process, whilst at the same time adhering to the strict regulations that govern the collection and production of blood and blood products. The primary relationships are with our Donors and with the Centre team; thereby making communication and interpersonal skills essential to all roles in a Donor Centre.
This role is part of a professional team and will be supported by Enrolled Nurses (ENs) to whom a DSNA can hand over tasks requiring nursing experience. They can also escalate issues to the Registered Nurse (RN) on duty for help and clinical advice. The RN provides clinical leadership and advice to all team members involved in the donation process.
