**Where you'll be working**:
The Peer Worker position is located at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah and provides peer support services to people receiving clinical care within the Older Peoples Mental Health Service across the Greater Newcastle and Hunter Valley region. This role has a specific focus on people living in, or transitioning to Residential Aged Care who may be experiencing psychological distress.

**About the role**:
The Peer Worker will work alongside a carer peer worker, and will also work together with a number of inpatient and community clinicians from the Older Peoples Mental Health Service with a shared goal of improving mental wellbeing for older people.

The Peer Worker will receive ongoing support from the Clinical Coordinator for the Older Peoples Mental Health Service and a number of other senior clinical staff, as well as a broader network of mental health peer workers, including a professional lead for mental health peer work.

**About you**:
We are looking for a peer worker with a good understanding of mental health conditions, who is able to articulate their own lived experience of mental health issues and recovery journey in order to assist others struggling with their own mental health.

**Requirements**:

- Applicants must have a personal lived experience of mental illness and the mental health services and be able to reflect on personal experience of recovery and be willing to utilise the lived experience to support others with their own mental health recovery journey, whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness.
