**About the role**

Western Health is a major tertiary health service serving a diverse, multicultural and multilingual community in the rapidly growing western suburbs of Melbourne. It operates three Emergency Departments (ED) at the Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown campuses. An expansion of the Sunshine Emergency Department has been completed and includes a new resuscitation, fast track, short stay, paediatric hub, Behavioural Assessment Unit and a crisis hub.

The construction of the New Footscray Hospital has commenced and is planned for completion in 2025.

EDMO positions are rotated across the two training campuses (Sunshine and Footscray). It is ideal for those with 2+ years post graduate experience, wanting a broad emergency experience, before committing to a career in ED. It may suit those not yet experienced enough for the ED Registrar role including GP trainees. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to complete an EM Certificate and obtain further experience to transition to an ED Registrar position.

EDMO positions are rotated across the two training campuses (Sunshine and Footscray). Both Emergency Departments (ED) are accredited by ACEM (Australasian College for Emergency Medicine) for Advanced Training as urban district sites. Sunshine ED currently treats over 100,000 patient presentations per year. This includes over 28,000 paediatric presentations in a dedicated paediatric area. Emergency obstetrics and gynaecology are also predominantly seen at this campus. Footscray ED manages over 40,000 adult patient presentations per year. Both departments offer exposure to a diverse and interesting case mix in a well-supported environment with access to all major surgical and medical specialties.

Both sites are supported by active on the floor Consultant leadership, supervision and education from 0730hrs - 2400hrs, seven days a week.

This position is predominantly focused on treating adult patients though there may be opportunity to gain exposure to paediatric presentations via dedicated paediatric ED rotations.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Provide quality care to patients in the Emergency Department through appropriate clinical assessment, investigation, management and communication in consultation with the Emergency Physician or senior registrar in Charge
- Understand and comply with timely disposition practices in accordance with National Emergency Access Targets, state based and hospital based KPI’s in consultation with senior colleagues
- Perform clinical duties as directed by the Emergency Physician or senior registrar in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures and relevant legislation
- Assume responsibility for communication with community providers of patients discharged from the Emergency Department.

**About you**:
To be Successful in this role you will have:

- A medical qualification recognised in Victoria, Australia
- Current Australian medical registration or eligibility for Provisional Registration with AHPRA with a minimum supervision level 2 or higher.
- Have at least 3 years clinical experience, ideally with 2+ years employed in Australia or a similar health system.
- Completion of minimum 3 months employment in an Emergency Department (preferable)
- An interest in pursuing Emergency Medicine as a career.
- Clinical competence as required for level of position
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Commitment to professional development
