- About the role
- Macquarie University Hospital and Clinics is embarking on a significant reformation of its IT healthcare systems and processes. To ensure our success, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Program Manager to lead key initiatives within this exciting program. This role is crucial to realizing the full potential of the IT Health Strategy.
- As the Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, execution, and delivery of a series of projects within the healthcare domain. You will lead a team of four Senior Project Managers and manage project delivery resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your leadership will be pivotal in driving project success and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Your key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership_- Develop and maintain a comprehensive program roadmap, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic objectives.- Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the project delivery team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.- Manage and mitigate program-level risks and issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimizing impact on project delivery.- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders, providing regular updates on program progress and performance.
- Team Management_- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 Senior Project Managers and project delivery resources, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.- Allocate resources effectively, optimizing team performance and ensuring efficient project delivery.- Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members, fostering professional growth and development.- Facilitate team meetings and ensure collaboration between team members.
- Project Delivery_- Oversee the planning, execution, and closure of 15+ IT health projects, ensuring adherence to project methodologies and best practices.- Monitor project budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed parameters.- Ensure projects comply with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, particularly within the healthcare sector.- Ensure that projects meet quality standards.- Manage vendor relationships as needed.- Lead all IT Health Governance and Risk Management activities to ensure program of work meets all necessary requirements.
- Stakeholder Management_- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical staff, IT teams, and senior management.- Ensure stakeholder expectations are managed effectively, and project deliverables meet their needs.- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between stakeholders, ensuring alignment and shared understanding.
This is a fixed term contract role ending 31 December 2026 and will be based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde.
About you
- You have proven experience in program management, with a track record of successfully delivering (planning, execution, monitoring, and closure) large scaled complex IT projects, within the healthcare sector. You bring with a deep understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, hybrid).

- Selection Criteria- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.- Experience with health-related IT systems, like EHR, or other clinical systems.- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams, including senior project managers.- Strong skills in team building, performance management, and conflict resolution.- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including clinical staff, IT teams, and senior management.- Experience in developing and managing program budgets and the ability to track and control project costs.
- Desirable Criteria- Knowledge of healthcare IT systems and technologies: Demonstrate familiarity with EHRs, telehealth solutions, or other relevant technologies.- Experience in healthcare IT Reformations: Showcase understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities associated with change in these sectors.- Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory compliance.
