**Flourishing Oceans** aims to return our oceans to a flourishing state. A healthy ocean is one that can withstand a changing climate and increasing human pressure, is resilient, and free from pollution with a plentiful biomass of fished species. As human pressure increases and the health of our ocean continues to decline, dramatic steps are required to protect and conserve this resource.

To facilitate this, we are committed to ending overfishing; ending the dumping of plastic, heat and CO2 in our ocean; supporting the sustainable use of ocean resources; conserving key habitats; and facilitating world class research.

We are seeking a passionate and energetic individual to lead our green shipping campaign to reduce the impact of climate change on our oceans. Sitting within the Minderoo Foundation Flourishing Oceans team, the Green Shipping lead will have a focus on advocacy and implementation of decarbonization and sustainability in the shipping supply chain. The role has a global aim that requires an experienced individual with the ability to negotiate and affect change within industry, government, peak bodies, and consumers.

Duties include:

- Research and monitor industry environment and sustainability trends, best practices and identify improvement opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in shipping
- Oversight in developing decarbonization strategies and approaches for implementing emission abatement solutions in for example supply chain contracts
- Assessment of barriers and drivers for energy transition and technology uptake, including regulatory development, economics, financing, and market drivers
- Design and implement advocacy strategies and national/international engagement plans with a focus on green shipping
- Execution of complex technology and policy projects, with a strong focus on structured and high-quality report writing
- Develop and implement a campaign strategy and deliver campaign results in accordance with the advocacy goals
- Manage campaign communications and other advocacy tools and undertake media as needed
- Liaise and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders including international bodies, external research institutes and universities, government, industry and consumers
- Build and cultivate strategic partnerships to leverage advocacy opportunities
- Monitor legislative activities and conduct lobbying as needed
- Establish a monitoring framework to determine the impact outcome of actions initiated
- Develop and manage project budgets
- Link and synergise with other Flourishing Oceans programs

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 10 years’ experience in relevant field
- Passionate about shipping decarbonization and sustainability.
- Experience in shipping and sustainability highly regarded
- Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and measure impact
- Experience with international best practice guidelines in the blue economy
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to synthesize information rapidly and to determine the right time and nature of intervention.
- A strong commitment to producing measurable results
- Strong written and oral communications skills. Adept at facilitation
- Good interpersonal skills; able to develop and maintain respectful, productive relationships with stakeholders
- A good understanding of how to manage by influencing others and the ability to read nuances of meaning accurately
- Exhibit skills of diplomacy. Able to work productively with a wide array of groups and institutions that have different perspectives and objectives
- A track record of identifying potential partners, cultivating relationships, and generating interest and support for a cause
- Advanced report writing and research skills
