Our client, Women’s Health and Family Services, is a well-established and highly regarded independent ‘for purpose’ community services organisation, supporting the health and wellbeing of women, their families, and their communities, providing assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged women through their clinic, counselling, and support services.
The services the organisation provides are open to all Western Australian women and their families, with consideration made for the unique needs of Aboriginal, migrant, and refugee families.

The organisation has a well-established history of providing peer support for women in their recovery from an eating disorder and has recently expanded its services to a broader group including all genders, ages 16 years+, parents, and carers, offering assistance through individual sessions and group programs, using face-to-face, telephone, and online delivery.
Due to this expansion, an opportunity exists for an early career Mental Health Worker with
**lived experience supporting a loved one with an eating disorder,** to join their team. Reporting to the Manager Client Services, Counselling and Mental Health, the role will involve providing emotional and practical support to participants on an individual and group basis, assisting clients to implement recovery strategies, helping navigate treatment options, evaluating client outcomes, and promoting hope for recovery.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide emotional and practical support to parents/carers and family members supporting a loved one with an eating disorder
- Assist clients to implement self-care strategies, increase effective communication and assist to navigate support and treatment options
- Promote hope for recovery using shared experiential knowledge, skills, and strategies to enhance and improve the capacity of participants
- Assist in the development and delivery of parent, carer and family support in both group and individual formats
- Raise awareness of eating disorders and provide community education workshops
**Job Requirements**
To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will possess the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in mental health and/or related health field
- Have lived experience of supporting a loved one with an eating disorder who has demonstrated subsequent recovery for a minimum of at least one year
- Ability to self-manage one’s own mental wellness and to demonstrate strategies for maintaining good emotional and physical wellbeing that can be shared
- Ability to communicate by using one’s own experience modelling positive behaviours and coping skills
- Have a positive, non-judgmental attitude towards people with mental health problems and AOD use, including those from Aboriginal, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build and maintain effective working relationships
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to positively manage relationships and establish boundaries
- An understanding of peer support, self-determination, person-centred care, and the concept of consumer-led recovery
- Previous experience in a peer support role and/or in the mental health or AOD sector, and a willingness to further develop peer support skills by undertaking formal courses of study will be highly regarded
