**About this role**
- The Patient Safety Principal Policy Officer (PPO) role is a key role in the Patient Safety First Unit.
- The Patient Safety PPO role will draw on their significant clinical experience and judgement to review complex clinical incidents, safety and quality indicators and current or emerging risks to the provision of safe, quality and caring health service delivery across NSW Health.
- The PPO will be a source of clear and considered advice on the actual and potential risks to the safety of patients and healthcare consumers, including the breadth and scale of the risk.
- The PPO will work in collaboration with the Clinical Excellence Commission. The commission role includes setting standards for safety and monitoring clinical safety and quality processes and improving performance of individuals, teams and systems in prioritising safety.
**Crown Clerk 11/12**, starting salary from $139,787 - $161,663 p.a. plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

**What you'll be doing
- This is a key clinical support role in the NSW Ministry of Health. Specific responsibilities include the review of complex clinical information, clinical incidents and matters that give rise to safety concerns across NSW Health.
- In this role, you will be required to review such matters and to form a considered view about the nature, scope and scale of the clinical incident or concern.
- You will utilise your knowledge and experience in safety and quality to analyse a broad cross section of safety incidents and indicators including, clinical incidents lookbacks, coronial cases, complaints, and hospital acquired complications
- You will represent NSW Health on internal and external committees related to safety, quality and clinical risk and /or related policy issues.
**About you**

- In person regular presence at the Ministry of Health is essential to build and maintain a strong supported team, capitalise on learning opportunities and provide immediate face to face advice and support for Ministry colleagues and executives. You can also exercise flexible work practices including working from home by agreement.
- The ability to build and maintain relationships within the Ministry of Health and across the NSW Health system.
- The ability to work and thrive in a small dynamic team managing a high volume and fast pace.
The role requires a high level of acumen in patient safety and clinical nous to appropriately manage the matters at hand.
