The Aboriginal Programs and Policy Team, which is part of the Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect Unit within the Government Relations, Strategy, Violence and Prevention Branch is seeking expressions of interest for a Principal Policy Officer role.

**About us**
The PARVAN Unit is staffed by dedicated policy professionals who support NSW Health services to deliver evidence-based, culturally safe and trauma-informed responses to children, young people and adults who are victim-survivors of violence, abuse and neglect.
PARVAN supports and drives NSW Health policy and practice priorities in relation to the prevention, identification and response to:
- child abuse and negotiations
- domestic and family violence
- Aboriginal family violence
- sexual assault
- medical and forensic responses to violence, abuse and neglect
- adult survivors of child sexual assault
- children and young people with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours
**About the role**

This is a unique opportunity to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of people in NSW, with a specific focus on Aboriginal people and communities, in an innovative and dynamic policy environment.
The Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Unit is the lead NSW Health Unit addressing the complex issues of preventing and responding to violence, abuse and neglect. Violence, abuse and neglect is an umbrella term for interpersonal violence that is widespread in Australian communities including domestic and family violence, sexual assault, and all forms of child abuse and neglect. The PARVAN Unit supports the NSW Health system to improve outcomes through integrated, culturally safe, high-quality, psychosocial and medical and forensic services and other strategic policy and capacity-building initiatives.

**What you'll be doing**
Aboriginal Policy and Programs Team is responsible for managing a busy portfolio with a diverse and interesting range of policy, program and project work, including:
- Leading NSW Health services to provide Aboriginal informed and culturally safe violence, abuse and neglect responses, which are high quality, evidence-based, and trauma-informed
- Leading in the design, implementation and evaluation of new and integrated violence, abuse and neglect policies, programs, services and clinical pathways that meet the needs of Aboriginal people and families.
- Supporting quality improvement activities for NSW Health responses to violence, abuse and neglect by providing a strong Aboriginal world view
- Providing advice to NSW Health services, public health organisations, parliamentary requests and related government organisations to help prevent and respond to violence, abuse and neglect.
Background or experience in violence, abuse and neglect clinical, policy or program work (or an adjacent area) is preferred but not essential.

**About you**
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:
- The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
- Leading a small team undertaking policy and program development
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Project management skills and experience
- Background or experience in violence, abuse and neglect (e.g. sexual assault, domestic and family violence, and child abuse and neglect) clinical, policy or program work is preferred, but not essential.
