**_Do you want your work to make a difference for NSW?_**
**_ Working to protect the state’s environment and heritage._**
- **Field Officer (Grade 1-2)**:
- **Casual - multiple opportunities, no guaranteed hours per week**:
- **Depot location will be Lake Munmorah & Somersby**:
**About the role**
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Field Officer to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.
As part of a close-knit team, you'll be involved in a range of projects, from maintaining walking tracks and visitor facilities to assisting with fire management, pest and weed control, and conservation programs. Whether you're clearing storm-damaged trails, restoring habitats, or working with contractors and volunteers, you’ll be making a real impact. If you enjoy working in nature, being part of a supportive team, and contributing to the protection of our national parks, this is the perfect opportunity for you
**About You**
To be successful as a Field Officer (Grade 1-2), you’ll need a hands-on approach and a keen interest in working outdoors in a physically active role. A basic knowledge of operating and maintaining small plant and equipment—such as brush cutters, chainsaws, and mowers—is essential, as is the ability to identify common weeds and assist with their control. Experience in general maintenance, landscaping, or similar outdoor work will be highly regarded, along with an understanding of workplace safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment and risk assessments. A current driver’s license is required, and experience with 4WD vehicles or working in remote locations would be an advantage.
Beyond the technical skills, we’re looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in their work. Strong communication skills are important, as you’ll be interacting with colleagues, contractors, and sometimes members of the public. The ability to follow instructions, problem-solve in the field, and adapt to changing priorities will help you thrive in this dynamic environment. If you’re reliable, self-motivated, and passionate about conserving our natural areas, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and make a real difference.
**Essential Requirements**
- Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent, and ability to drive 4wd vehicles.
- Ability to obtain and use MR Licence where appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability and experience to carry out all duties safely and ability to obtain relevant SafeWork NSW certification to appropriately operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment, including but not limited to conditionally registered vehicles, watercraft, lifting apparatus and minor road maintenance plant as well as the ability and willingness to obtain a First Aid certificate.
- Certification, or ability to obtain certification within the probationary period (up to 12 months), in operating a chainsaw to crosscut or basic tree felling standard; ability to operate two-way radio.
- Ability to carry out frontline firefighting support roles.
- Casual Field Officer applicants must meet the requirements of a standard pre-employment medical._
