The Aboriginal Communities Water Services Water Quality section sits within the Water Quality business unit.

The **Technical Advisor for Source Protection** is an integral part of the team ensuring the long-term success of Aboriginal Communities Water Services Program.

This role plays an important part in the water quality management of Aboriginal Communities by providing direction and guidance for source protection field operations and supporting projects to improve the management of drinking water catchments in communities.

The purpose of the role is to assist with the implementation of source protection operations by undertaking routine reporting and supporting process such as standard development and review, system building, training, education and communications and the provision of best-practice operational advice.

This will ensure water quality operational objectives and outcomes are achieved in Aboriginal Communities.

This is a fixed term full-time opportunity until **4th July 2025.**

**What the role will involve**:
Support the implementation and enhancement of source protection processes in Aboriginal Communities

Develop and review corporate source protection processes in relation to Aboriginal communities.

Undertake mapping and spatial data creation of key risks for drinking water catchments. Assist other team members to create/interpret maps.

Contribute to the review and development of public education programs involving source protection.

Support local operators to undertake routine operational source protection data collection and reporting.

Engage with internal and external stakeholders including Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Horizon Power

Provide consultancy advice on catchment related drinking water quality matters

**Key skills and experience**:

- Qualifications in science, environmental science, or natural resource management.
- Relevant experience in drinking water quality management or catchment management.
- Experience/knowledge of Spatial tools (ArcGIS) and data management
- Report writing skills along with skills in literature review and research.
- A willingness to work across other areas of water quality management within the Aboriginal Communities section if required.
