Gap Year Army Combat
**Your role**:
Get a taste of life in the Australian Defence Force and immerse yourself in an action-packed role with a 12-month Gap Year experience. While on an Army Combat Gap Year, you’ll gain skills for life in one of three combat roles: Infantry Soldier, Artillery Operator or Combat Engineer.
The 12-month experience will arm you with skills and knowledge to contribute to your career journey inside or outside of the Australian Defence Force. After completing the Gap Year, you’ll have the opportunity to leave or continue your Army employment in a full-time or part-time capacity.
From the moment you start your Gap Year experience, you’ll be trained to be part of a highly skilled team to handle any situation and keep the Army moving.
It isn’t just reserved for people that are straight out of school. It’s a unique opportunity where you’ll get the chance to try out a year in Defence, learning how to fulfil a combat role that’s unlike any other. You’ll get paid to travel and gain invaluable life and work experience, while making friendships that could last a lifetime.
One you complete your initial military training, you’ll grow your skills and expertise in one of the following roles:
- **Infantry Solider** where you’ll form part of an Infantry combat team and be armed with advanced weapons and equipment, or
- **Artillery Operator** where you’ll operate artillery weapons and provide vital artillery support to Army combat operations, or
- **Combat Engineer** where you’ll learn about military field engineering and gain skills in bridge-building, minefield clearance, field defence construction and demolition.
**Life in the Army Gap Year Program**:
Action, adventure, exciting career opportunities and amazing mateship - the Army Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you out of the office and into barracks, training exercises and the field itself.
There’s also the unique sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from serving your country and providing support to communities in need, both here and overseas. Whether you decide to extend into a longer-term role in the Army, or not, you’ll get the chance to see if it’s a good fit for you.
Along with the highly purposeful work, you’ll be working in a supportive environment alongside highly skilled professionals to help guide you throughout the whole program.
**Salary**:
During your 12-month role and on completion of training, you will receive a salary starting from $69,660 plus generous 16.4% superannuation.
In addition to your salary, you will receive housing subsidies and free medical and dental care.
You must be aged between 17-24 years old to apply, an Australian Citizen and have completed Year 12, with passes in Year 10 English and Maths.
