Salary Range: $97,735 - $110,982 + Attractive Superannuation

The remit of the Data and Insights Branch is to evolve the way the department produces and uses data, analytics and research, to underpin evidence-based policy development, service delivery and wellbeing outcomes. The branch fosters a culture of curiosity in data and research, establishing processes that enable the department to better understand and serve the needs of veterans and their families.

The Actuarial Analytics section is currently engaged in the development of many strategic projects, which are high-profile and high-value to the Department. The team uses longitudinal data and advanced analytics across an array of predictive modelling and free text analytics projects. Working collaboratively with the Australian Government Actuary (AGA), various service providers and experts, we analyse and interpret actuarial results to support evidence-based policy development. The team leverages comprehensive, veteran-centric data to understand the lifetime trajectories of clients, and to evaluate the effectiveness of new policies in improving financial and social outcomes. The team also uses information to identify specific cohorts who may benefit from early interventions to help inform targeted services and government funding.

**Duties**

- Contribute to data linking and analysis activities to build a more complete picture of the veteran experience, including working with the Multi Agency Data Integration Project (MADIP).
- Enhance and update the Priority Investment Approach - Veterans (PIA-V) micro-simulation models to undertake actuarial projections and to support a variety of key business uses.
- Using data-driven client segmentation to identify specific cohorts which could benefit from early intervention to inform targeted services.
- Enhance and expand the models to estimate future client demand.
- Leverage data to develop a picture of the lifetime trajectories of clients.
- Contribute to evaluating the effectiveness of new policies in improving outcomes for veterans.
- Identify specific cohorts which could benefit from early intervention to inform targeted services.
- Contribute to the development of the Wellbeing Dataset to assess whole-of-life outcomes.
- Develop interactive dashboards using Tableau.
- Support the streamlining of the data extraction process to enable the provision of reliable data.
- Develop analytical models and tools that provide holistic insights into the veteran population and draw recommendations regarding emerging trends or risks

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

**Mandatory Requirements**
- Tertiary degree with major in Actuarial Studies, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Econometrics, Computer Science, Nuclear Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Data Science or a closely related discipline.

**Notes**

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
