**Who we are**

**Climate Policy** is a cross-cutting issue which impacts every facet of the department’s business, our portfolio industries and stakeholders. The Climate Policy teams support the Minister, Secretary and Executive Leadership Team on delivering overarching climate policy for the portfolio. We work within the department, across portfolios and with industry to build understanding, engagement and action on climate change.

The
**Budget Strategy** function is fast-paced and provides the department and the Portfolio Minister with timely and considered advice on federal Budget policy and processes. It produces strategic and analytical products to inform long-term planning and builds the department’s policy development capabilities.

The
**Policy Office** uses specialised skills in facilitation and human-centred design to strengthen the department’s ability to deliver informed, influential, integrated and innovative policy advice and solutions through modern ways of working, and strategic collaboration.

The
**Behavioural Insights** stream applies innovative behavioural insights to policies and programs to bolster delivery of departmental strategic objectives.

**The Jobs**
Climate Policy Key duties include:

- working with key industry stakeholders to better understand and support their aspirations and commitment to reduce emissions and adapt to a variable and changing climate, in order to balance productivity, profitability and sustainability
- supporting coordination with business areas across the department to align their policy development objectives with the Government’s and DAFF’s climate policy agenda
- helping maintain strong internal stakeholder networks and convene strategic discussions for the Executive Leadership Team and senior executives on strategic portfolio issues and emerging priorities related to DAFF’s climate policy agenda
- building visibility of the whole-of-government climate policy agenda and contribute to advance DAFF’s and Australia’s long-term policy interests.

Budget Strategy Key duties include:

- providing advice to senior stakeholders and the Minister’s office on Budget strategy, process and outcomes
- writing and reviewing budget submissions and new policy proposals for the portfolio
- maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in the department, central agencies and ministerial offices to support smooth delivery of Budget outcomes
- contributing to whole-of-Government and portfolio products and narratives, e.g. Regional Ministerial Budget Statement.

Policy Officer Key duties include:

- providing credible and persuasive advice to our client areas on modern ways of working, creative problem solving and targeted stakeholder engagement
- designing and delivering capability uplift programs on policy development and advice, compelling communication, ways of working, problem definition, analysis and treatment
- supporting the development of whole-of-portfolio strategic products, including placemat and presentation design and management
- supporting work with stakeholders to explore complex problems and identifying behaviour change interventions using a suite of different tools or processes, including accelerator delivery and sprint workshops
- supporting the design and delivery of complex and large-scale workshops and developing guidance material to build capability across the department.

Behavioural Insights Key duties include:

- supporting the design, delivery, and evaluation of major research and behavioural intervention projects, including conducting research activities with key ‘end users’, to improve the department’s priority policies, programs, and services
- contributing to design and deliver rich, engaging training to grow behavioural science capability within the department.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
We are looking for applicants with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Domestic and/or international climate change policy development.
- Strategic policy development and analysis.
- Federal Budget and Cabinet processes.
- Human-centred design, facilitation, and strategic communication.
- Behavioural sciences, particularly in intervention design, evaluation, and implementation.
- Contributing to, and supporting, other sections priorities across the Branch, including strategic planning and business improvement initiatives.
- Leading a team on projects or being able to supervisor junior staff members.
