**The opportunity**

As a Principal Policy Officer you will support the Unit Head and Manager Policy in a high performing, collaborative and passionate team with a proven track record in delivering important policy projects, bringing experience as a senior policy professional, confidence and advanced thinking and problem-solving skills; leading policy analysis, evaluation and development with the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions. The Principal Policy Officer is required to synthesise and communicating complex concepts and engage with internal and external stakeholders, while managing multiple competing priorities and contributing to a positive team culture

**About You**

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and action policies, projects, guidance, and strategic and innovative solutions to achieve environmental and human health outcomes for the people of NSW.

- Highly motivated and adaptive, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in policy or economic analysis and development with the ability to identify and contribute to the development and implementation of innovative solutions.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and build strong working relationships across govern agencies and with stakeholders.

**About our division**

The Regulatory Policy Initiatives and Advice Division leads on policy, economic and regulatory development to ensure NSW has innovative, modern, resilient, and effective frameworks in place to ensure the protection of the environment and human health. This includes:

- Leading the way on regulating the causes and consequences of climate change, by developing regulatory policy and programs to support Australian and NSW commitments to achieving net zero emissions by 2050
- Removing problematic plastics from the environment, including implementing the current ban on single use plastics and policy development for further restrictions on single use plastics
- Leading policy initiatives directed at driving a circular economy, including future waste infrastructure needs, reducing carbon emissions through better waste and materials management and building on our work to protect the environment and human health from waste pollution.
- Policy and economic responses to address legacy and emerging contaminants, hazardous chemicals and radiation, pesticides and other harmful substances.
- Working across government to support sustainable land management and conservation.
- Working across jurisdictions and government agencies to address government priorities and emerging issues.
