The role of Support Worker involves providing support to people with physical and intellectual disabilities including those with complex support needs. The key accountabilities for the role include:
- Passion for assisting people with a disability to work towards attaining their personalized goals
- Empower clients by supporting them to gain life skills and increase capabilities
- Provide high quality community based and on site services that support and promote community inclusion, personal growth and living skills for people with a disability
- Assist in the preparation of personal learning plans
- Ability to listen and understand needs and desires of clients and use this to motivate clients to achieve goals
- Ability to manage a small group of clients with varying abilities to develop and enhance individual skills
- Assist clients to achieve personal goals & supporting them to develop and identify new goals
- Ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with clients, families, staff and other services
- Experience with Microsoft programs and a Customer Records Management System (Supportability)
- A full understanding of NDIS zero tolerance framework to ensure that learning enhancement programs promote the safety, well-being and inclusion of all clients
- Responsible for supporting the development, implementation and execution of day programs
- Assist with personal goal related capacity building
- Participate in the assessment, planning and evaluation of clients’ needs and programs
- Complete daily journal notes, reporting documentation and activity profiles as required
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team environment
- Maintain and file accurate records of all contact with parents and service providers
Required Skills & Experience
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety and You' (completed or willing to complete)
- Experience working with behaviours of concern, autism/ ASD, complex communication would be an advantage
- Punctual and excellent time management skills
- Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to identify problems and find solutions
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team environment
- Current Drivers License
- Commitment to occupational health and safety
- Certificate III or IV in Disability is highly desirable
- Knowledge and experience of the NDIS is highly desirable
- Experience with SupportAbility highly desirable
