**About the National Measurement Institute**:
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is the Australian Government’s national measurement authority and plays an important role in the Australian economy. NMI does this by leading, maintaining, and regulating Australia’s measurement system.

**About the team**:
The Organic Chemistry Laboratory provides government and private clients with technical expertise and analytical services across the environmental, food and health sectors, enabling our clients to meet their business, research, and regulatory compliance needs.

The laboratory consists of approximately twenty staff and conducts trace organic chemical analyses on a wide range of sample types, including water, soil, food, and pharmaceuticals for a diverse range of organic chemical contaminants. Contaminants analysed include veterinary analytes and USEPA environmental priority pollutants, including semivolatiles, volatiles, pesticides, PFAS and hydrocarbons.

- Demonstrated experience in operating and troubleshooting either gas or liquid chromatography instruments coupled to mass spectrometry
- Demonstrated experience in independently undertaking trace organic extraction and analysis of veterinary analytes or USEPA environmental priority pollutants such as semivolatiles, volatiles, pesticides, and petroleum hydrocarbons in a fast turnaround time environment
- Demonstrated experience in independently developing methods to analyse veterinary analytes or USEPA priority environmental pollutants
- Experience with effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience with Quality Management Systems, quality requirements for reporting analytical results and familiarity with ISO 17025 and NATA accreditation
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and ability to work productively in a team
- Demonstrated ability to consistently exhibit NMI values of being adaptable, accountable, innovate, inclusive, influential, and strategic

**What you will do**:
The positions are based in NMI North Ryde and are full-time positions working within the Organic Chemistry Laboratory either in the Food or Environment Testing Teams. You will report to either the Food or Environment Organic Chemistry Team Leader and will undertake the role of Team Leader in their absence.

The key functions and roles for these positions are:

- Performing extraction, analysis, and reporting of trace level veterinary analytes in animal tissue or USEPA semivolatile and volatile priority pollutants, pesticides, and hydrocarbons in environmental samples
- Operating, maintaining, and repairing the Organic Laboratory’s liquid or gas chromatography mass spectrometer instruments to analyse and report a wide range of
