**The Technical officer is responsible for providing technical support to biological research labs including ancient DNA and pre and post PCR laboratories.**

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Life & Earth Sciences team in the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET).

The Life & Earth Sciences team supports internationally acclaimed and contemporary disciplines of molecular & cellular biology; ecology & environmental sciences; geology and earth sciences and genetics & evolution, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.

This position is responsible for supporting the operation of biological research laboratories, coordinating maintenance for equipment and ensuring legislative and HSW compliance in facilities including DNA labs, pre
- and post-PCR lab, ultra-low contamination laboratories DNA-free state, as well as other facilities such as: aquariums, equipment hubs, etc. This position also supports quarantine laboratories and maintains a range of databases predominantly in the field of environment and ecology. This position reports to the Team Leader of the Earth and Life Sciences team and works collaboratively with the team and academic staff.

**To be successful you will need**:

- Demonstrated experienced in maintaining specialised DNA laboratories.
- Knowledge in maintaining ultra-low contamination laboratories in a DNA-free state.
- Experience in maintenance of laboratory equipment, chemical handling and waste disposal processes.
- Experience with research equipment: developing SOP, RA, routine maintenance, liaising with contractor for equipment repair.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate individual and team work activities to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a complex environment.

**Desirable**
- Knowledge in maintaining aquarium facilities
