Full-time, continuing position.

We are seeking a Technical Officer to provide expert support in the planning and delivery of practicals, field trips, and laboratory activities within the fields of Earth Sciences, Geology, and Environmental Science.

This position plays a key role in supporting academic teaching and research by maintaining laboratory infrastructure, preparing practical sessions, and ensuring safety compliance across Earth Sciences teaching and research facilities.

As part of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology's Technical Services Team, the Technical Officer will work in a collaborative and innovative environment, directly supporting students and academics through hands-on involvement in practical teaching and research. This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including equipment maintenance, consumable management, field trip preparation, and technical training in rock processing and laboratory safety. The Faculty is a leader in research and education with over $120 million in annual research revenue, providing a stimulating and high-performing workplace.

The successful candidate will need a strong background in Earth Sciences or related disciplines, experience in laboratory operations and equipment management, and a commitment to health, safety and wellbeing practices. To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the provision of laboratory services in Earth Sciences; Geology/ Environmental Science.

  • Demonstrated experience with maintenance of laboratory/rock processing equipment; liaising with contractors for equipment repair and chemical handling and waste disposal processes.

  • Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate individual and teamwork activities to achieve goals and meet deadlines

  • Knowledge of HSW and safety management with demonstrated experience in application of these in a research environment and written experience in developing SOP and RA

  • Demonstrated experience communicating in a professional and responsive manner to deliver client centric results and achieve outcomes when working with a range of stakeholders.

A current South Australian Driver's Licence is required for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Geology/Earth Sciences/ Environmental Science Diploma, degree or qualification
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and / or education / training.
