Salary Range: $118,220 -$129,820 + Attractive Superannuation

The Mental Health Adviser is responsible for providing advice to support the strategic research, policy and program goals of the department, in relation to mental health, and makes a significant contribution to the broader focus on mental health in DVA.

Specifically, the position will provide leadership in improving the knowledge and evidence base for the mental health requests and policy work of the Department, and advise on research related to mental health issues. The Department is involved with a range of policy initiatives, which include addressing the mental health needs and mental health literacy for veterans and current and former serving personnel, families and DVA staff.

**Duties**

In accordance with the principles of workplace diversity, Work Health and Safety, participative work practices, APS values and APS Employment Principles:

- Lead and provide advice on research in mental health, with specific focus on veterans and their families. This requires detailed understanding and consideration of sensitive organisational and political issues.
- Advise on complex policy that requires a detailed analysis of diverse data and views where there are a range of viable options.
- Advise on mental health provider notes and clinical treatment guidelines.
- Provide oversight in improving the evidence base for mental and social health policy.
- Prepare and review draft policy reports, research papers, briefing papers, speeches and discussion papers.
- Assist in ensuring clinical quality of mental health literacy resources including apps and websites, and provider training materials.
- Represent the Department and present to mental health clinicians, researchers, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide mental health advice and education in relation to requests for funding of health services
- Provide advice and mentoring to business areas managing complex or at risk clients, as requested.

**Eligibility**
- Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.

**Mandatory**
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, AHPRA registration and endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist. Membership (or eligibility for membership) of a relevant professional body
- Experience as a practising clinician (minimum five years)
- Highly developed research experience/literacy, as well as skills in translation of research to inform policy and practice

A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions within the next 18 months.
