**Description**:
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer provides appropriately targeted youth support services to reduce the likelihood of young people entering or remaining in the child protection and out-of-home care systems. The role will predominately support young people who are in the age range of 12-18 across the South West Sydney Area District.
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer will assist young people to access support, maintain contacts with first to know agencies such as schools and health services as well as promoting awareness of youth homelessness and issues faced by Young People in the SWS region. The role will provide coordination of supports for young people with multiple or complex needs to deliver integrated care plans and provide interventions to support young people to remain in safe, stable and sustainable accommodation.
To achieve these outcomes, the Position will liaise with, and coordinate support from, agencies that offer relevant services to the client group and their families/care givers. In addition, the Aboriginal Liaison Officer will provide direct client care through the provision of a specialist service in line with principals of self-determination, whilst meeting the needs of the vulnerable target group.
**Responsibilities Include**:
Undertake and meet all case management responsibilities in relation to young people allocated by the TEI Manager. Casework with a manageable caseload
Maintain regular, effective and meaningful contact with young people.
Work within a client-centred, trauma-informed framework that is culturally appropriate
Ensure that case plans are regularly reviewed and facilitate the attendance of all key stakeholders at relevant meetings including case conferences and reviews
Provide meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young People to contribute to and engage in community development programs and projects
Attend monthly supervision meetings with TEI Team Leader and complete the tasks identified at these meetings. Identify personal learning needs and give feedback on the service including the identification of gaps and areas for improvement.
Assist CORE Youth Services to develop, implement and evaluate strategies and initiatives that address the needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.
Provide clear and concise advice, assistance and/ or recommendation strategies to Young People and their families in SWS.
Actively marketing and promoting CORE Youth Services programs and activities to new prospective Participants and service providers.
Develop and maintain positive and effective professional working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
Work collaboratively with Team Leaders, Case Managers, Residential Care Workers, administration staff and other CCS staff to achieve identified outcomes for young people.
Undertake case management including reviews, reporting and administration functions.

**Selection Criteria**:
Being of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background
Tertiary qualification in Aboriginal Studies, Social sciences, Social Work or similar
Demonstrated experience in Case management from a strengths-based, trauma-informed and family-focused framework
Demonstrated awareness of child protection issues, with the capacity to identify levels of risk requiring statutory child protection intervention.
Knowledge of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and relevant legislation.
Superior case management skills and previous experience in a similar role, ability to manage case load.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
Demonstrated understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and an ability to advocate for social justice outcomes for the communities that you represent.
Demonstrated ability to build positive and effective working relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and other stakeholders and an ability to facilitate positive and effective community engagement between those groups.
Drivers Licence
Strong communication, customer service, negotiation and influencing skills. Including resilience, with the ability to work under pressure and manage high volume workloads.
Demonstrated dedication to work within professional boundaries, integrity and ethical standards
Demonstrated sensitivity to Culturally and Linguist
