The Medical Workforce Unit is responsible for providing a strategic and operational service which supports the medical employment and workforce needs of the Royal Women’s Hospital in collaboration with People, Culture and Wellbeing. Specifically, it provides management support to Clinical Directors (Medical) and Department and Unit Heads in the recruitment of all medical staff and in ongoing employment and rostering management of medical staff in Maternity, Women’s Health, Women’s Emergency Care (WEC) and Neonatal Services.

**Your contribution**

The purpose of this position is to:

- Provide organization leadership, governance and support on matters pertaining to the medical workforce
- Manage the Medical Workforce Unit Team and oversee the work of the team
- Plan, build, source, recruit, select and induct the required medical workforce, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Directors (Medical) and Department and Unit Heads and People, Culture and Wellbeing, to meet the current and future strategic objectives of the Royal Women’s Hospital
- The Medical Workforce Manager will work closely with People, Culture and Wellbeing to develop strategic and innovative approaches to maximise our workforce capacity in order to meet the needs of our health service

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Operationally manage all aspects of the employment of junior medical staff and work with the members of the People, Culture and Wellbeing team to ensure the timely administration of variations and contracts relating to the employment of JMOs
- In conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Director People, Culture and Wellbeing develop strategic recruitment objectives to meet the workforce capacity requirements of our medical stakeholders
- Ensure that the selection and recruitment processes adhere to the Women’s Procedures; are aligned to the professional and practice frameworks and are consistent with best practice People, Culture and Wellbeing processes
- Ensure that frameworks and processes are in place to appropriately induct employees into the organisation
- Analyse Workforce data to ensure the provision of professional support and advice to medical stakeholders on workforce and capacity issues. This includes monitoring vacancy rates, casual and overtime usage to ensure appropriately experienced, qualified and skilled medical staff.
- Establish and maintain appropriate tools to collate and allocate the medical workforce to the various areas across the clinical year, including identification of keys dates for the recruitment process, annual year planners and individual year rosters
- Continually work to maximise the most effective mix of workforce in terms of permanent, casual while working towards reducing the amount of rostered overtime where possible
- Work with pay office to improve accuracy of new starter and variation paperwork and minimise payroll issues for employees
- Work with Clinical Directors and others as relevant in preparing budgets and developing workforce management strategies that align with same.
- Prepare, administer, control and monitor HMO budget preparation process and management of the cost centre
- Develop the workforce budgeted overview for the appropriate cost centres managers to oversee and manage to ensure their staff meet budget targets.

Lead and manage your team to
- Coordinate rostering, attendance, leave approvals and backfill of leave of medical staff from obstetrics, women’s health, emergency department and neonatal services.
- Develop and publish rosters for senior and junior medical staff
- Initiate and monitor strategies to effectively manage leave allocation, leave cover and absenteeism
- Ensure all information regarding the contract and roster commitments of senior and junior medical staff is clear, current, and accessible
