**About the National Measurement Institute**:

**About the Analytical Services Branch **:The Analytical Services Branch (ASB) consists of a team of over 100 staff based in North Ryde and Port Melbourne. We provide chemical and biological measurement solutions and technical expertise for a large set of private sector and government stakeholders across the environmental, food and health sectors of the economy. We enable Australian industry and producers to meet their business, research, regulatory compliance and market access needs. We also work closely with the tertiary education sector in Australia and have a small cohort of international stakeholders.
**The opportunity**:
We are excited to be offering a role that will focus on building the profile, impact and sustainability of the National Measurement Institute through leadership of the Food and Health Chemistry Laboratory (FHCL). The FHCL team, as a Section of the Analytical Services Branch, is based at the NMI Port Melbourne site. FHCL consists of approximately 30 staff engaged in delivering a broad and complex range of chemical measurement solutions to NMI’s industry, government, research and community stakeholders. The Technical & Operations Manager co manages FHCL with an emphasis on laboratory operations and technical analytical matters, particularly relating to complex mass spectroscopy techniques. The role encompasses a large remit of accountabilities, particularly workplace leadership and culture, staff performance and development, capability development, meeting delivery objectives, equipment management and strategic planning. This role oversees laboratory operations, including planning, rostering and service delivery coms. Continuous Improvement for workplace culture, Safety, Operations and Quality is a key leadership accountability.
The position plays a leading role within the Branch Management Team and contributes to broader Branch and cross NMI activities associated to leadership and stakeholder needs as aligned to the strategic objectives of the NMI and our Department.

NMI’s working style is hybrid, with flexible work arrangements available. Noting for this role there is an expectation for at least 60% of time at site.
