About the organisation
The Victorian Ombudsman (Ombudsman) is a constitutionally entrenched officer of the Victorian Parliament that is responsible for ensuring fairness for Victorians in their dealings with the public sector and improving public administration. The Ombudsman is independent of Government and answerable to the Victorian Parliament, in part through the Integrity and Oversight Committee of the Parliament. The Office of the Victorian Ombudsman (OVO) is the administrative body through which the Ombudsman's legislative functions are exercised. With a culture built around responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability and a commitment to protect human rights, the OVO's focus is to continually improve public sector standards through the delivery of the Ombudsman's program.
About the role
The Ombudsman's key responsibilities include investigating and resolving complaints about administrative actions and decisions taken by government authorities, and reviewing them for lawfulness, reasonableness and fairness. Leading highly skilled and diverse teams, the Ombudsman provides operational leadership and management of the OVO. The Ombudsman develops and implements innovative processes and procedures that enable accessible and responsive services, while upholding critical principles of integrity and accountability to drive a fairer public sector.
