CSIRO’s Environment Business Unit brings together CSIRO’s capabilities in marine, atmospheric, water and terrestrial environment disciplines, as well as significant social and economic research, to align and support the nation in creating a better and more sustainable future.

The Coastal and Marine Geospatial Analyst will work within the Climate Intelligence (CI) program on CSIRO’s expanding portfolio of projects at the nexus of coastal ocean dynamics, climate change and natural hazards.

You will work closely with oceanographers, coastal impact modellers and remote sensing scientists to perform geospatial analyses required to set up numerical coastal/ocean models and post-process their output; integrate related model output with other geospatial datasets to support interpretation; and assist writing up results as well as code/procedure documentation.

**Your duties will include**:

- Identify and curate topographic, bathymetric and other geospatial and geological datasets (e.g. shoreline position over time, coastal engineering/defence information, substrate and habitat maps).
- Supply expertise in geodesy and cartography to ensure consistent use of vertical and horizontal datums and related accurate integration of disparate geospatial datasets.
- Support extraction and analysis of observational data (in situ and remote sensing) from national and international data repositories.
- Contribute to the team’s scientific code base, including the co-development of parametric and/or statistical models and basic data analysis routines.
- Adhere to CSIRO’s Management of Research Data Principles and provide in-project guidance on research data curation processes (e.g. naming strategies, version control, metadata, data storage, selecting file formats for long-term storage, disposal).
- Provide support and technical advice for internal and external users of data products.

**Location**: Melbourne, Hobart, or Canberra preferred - other locations negotiable

**Salary**: Salary will be based on qualifications, skills, and experience:
**CSCOF4**:

- AU$89,680 to AU$101,459 pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation

**CSCOF5**:

- AU$105,806 to AU$114,500 pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation

**Tenure**: Specified Term of 3 years, full time (part time also considered)

**To be considered you will need**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in the geographic, physical or ecological sciences (or related engineering disciplines)
- Demonstrated experience in advanced geospatial analysis and related coding in scientific programming languages such as Python and R;
- An understanding of geodesy;
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including the ability to document results and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients in order to meet projects goals and timelines; and
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, and carry out tasks autonomously in support of scientific research.
