**About the Department for Correctional Services**
The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. We work towards this through the contribution of staff who are employed in a wide variety of fields, from correctional officers and teachers, to social workers, psychologists and supervisors of court orders. **Special Conditions**
- The filling of this position is intended to constitute a genuine occupational requirement under section 34(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA). The position is therefore only open to applicants who are male to ensure an equal gender balance for a testing team who are able to test men and women.
- The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential;
- A flexible approach to working hours is required;
- Normal hours of duty are 37.5 hours per week to be worked Monday to Friday. The incumbent may be required to undertake some out of hours work which may include weekend work, to permit some random samples for drug testing purposes from offenders and bailees. Penalty rates are applicable to compensate for the irregular hours, weekend and public holiday work;
- Some interstate and intrastate travel will be required which may necessitate overnight absences.
