**The Role**
Information Sciences Division is seeking a deep thinker to advance the state of the art with respect to intelligent agents and autonomous software systems for information warfare. The research specialist will be generating concepts and insights to inform Project SynIAPs, which seeks to demonstrate Synthetic Intelligent Agent Platforms (SynIAPs) for decision superiority in contested information environments.

In this role you will:

- Undertake and lead challenging applied research and development;
- Engage with collaborators within DSTG, in academia, and in industry in order to shape and influence the Australian innovation landscape;
- Make a substantial contribution to the science and technologies associated with machine learning and computational intelligence, multi-agent coordination and cooperation, and system self-organisation paradigms; and
- Be able to make judgements about which science and technologies will have the greatest Defence impact.

**About our Team**
Information Warfare Command and Control (IWC2) STC conducts research and development of command and control (C2) technologies for fighting in and through the contested information environment.

Information warfare (IW) occurs within the machine, and necessitates an approach that relies heavily on autonomous operation of cyber, EW and influence operations capabilities, under the oversight of a human command element.

IWC2 research themes include:

- Information warfare C2 paradigms
- Antifragile multi-agent architectures
- Autonomous control methodologies
- Machine-human integration
- Causal modelling
- Scalable and elastic coordination technologies

We seek to collaborate with others working in similar areas so as to increase critical mass and achieve maximal impact for Defence.

You should demonstrate a high level of initiative, scientific integrity and engineering pragmatism.

Desirable skills and experience include the ability to:
