Communities at Work's Lifestyle Programs (Seniors, Disability and Transport) deliver community support to seniors and people living with a disability in an environment characterised by trust and respect. Being a part of our team means supporting all clients with services that meet individual needs, empowering clients to pursue their own goals and making a difference in their lives.
About the Role
Assisting seniors, people living with a disability, people with health-related concerns and those who are socially isolated due to a lack of suitable transport options within the Canberra region to access their community for medical and social appointments.
You will be a front-line Communities at Work representative in providing transport services to our clients. You are central in the effective operation of Communities at Work's transport service and engaging with our clients to provide a meaningful service.
To excel in this role you need to enjoy providing exceptional customer service for both external and internal customers and be able to provide accurate and timely support to the transport administrative team.
You will have good physical fitness with a requirement to undertake an independent physical assessment paid for by Communities at Work, the assessment will assess your ability to lift and carry safely, as well as your cardio fitness. You will need to declare any previous injuries and any management of current injuries.
Operating hours are Monday to Friday between the hours of 06:00am to 18:00pm. Shifts can vary up to 8 hours per day. The start time of the shift will vary each day.
Duties
Transport service vehicles include a variety of sedans, 12-seater vans and 22-seater mini-buses. The allocation of vehicles to drivers will be relevant to the appropriate licence requirements and service demands. You are required to:
- Use transport service vehicles to collect passengers from designated locations using journey run sheets.
- Have the ability to work autonomously and problem solve as required.
- Assist clients, with varying degrees of mobility safely into and out of transport vehicles.
- Assisting and supporting vulnerable people from time of pick up until drop off
- Deliver a high standard of customer service at all times
- Using safe manual handling practices, assist with the loading and unloading of wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and grocery bags into and out of transport service vehicles
- Liaise with the transport team in a timely manner
- Make and report observations based on client's support needs
- Collect client fees and contributions, record and deliver monies to Transport Facilitation staff.
- Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of the vehicle
- Operate IT equipment including interactive digital run sheets, digital forms and basic administration duties
- Observe, record and notify the administration team of hazards encountered through the run or involving Communities at Work vehicles.
- Actively demonstrate workplace behaviours consistent with the Communities at Work Purpose, Vision and Values and comply with Communities at Work policies, plans and guidelines
- Treat all participants, their families and other stake holders with respect and be inclusive of different cultures, religions and beliefs.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Maintain current 'Working with Vulnerable People' registration, NDIS Worker Screening and additional evidence relating to your background may be required is you have lived outside of Australia after the age of 16
- Hold a current unrestricted LR licence to enable the driving of the 22 seat Community Bus, or a minimum unrestricted C Class licence for general fleet vehicles.
- Hold a current Licence History Search which demonstrates an excellent record of driving in the past 3 years.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent support to vulnerable people
- Demonstrated ability to work as a supportive and positive team member
- Commitment to continuing professional and personal development to ensure the provision of best practice services
- Demonstrate good understanding of Android mobile phones and Microsoft Outlook
- Demonstrate good local knowledge of the Canberra area with alternate driving routes.
Desirable
- Qualifications relating to, or experience with, working with vulnerable people
- Experience in a transport environment
- Knowledge of the Canberra region and the ACT road system
- First Aid certificate
