It’s an exciting time for the Geelong Refinery with a number of significant projects planned in the next 5 years that support the refineries capabilities to supply the nations fuel and help people reach their destinations.

About the role:
We are seeking a safety professional who has experience in construction safety and ideally has project work experience, oil and gas experience is desirable.
Safety Coach is an important role in our operations, essential to achieving an injury and incident free culture by managing to the safety systems, coordinating first line assurance activities. You will be providing advice and coaching to operations staff, project contractors, and HSR’s to achieve safety and operational excellence. In this role you will ensure all activities are conducted and managed in accordance with agreed HSSE practices and procedures as outlined in the Geelong Refinery Management System with a focus on;
- Supporting the development of the Viva Safety Management Plans for events with the inclusion of the construction safety standards.
- Selection of approved contractors to meet Viva Energy’s Contractor Management System
- Review and guide the implementation of Contractors Safety Management Plans from each contractor supporting each event.
- Ensure compliance to regulation and construction safety standards.
- Provide advice and support to the Project Management Team.

Safety Systems;
- Analysis data sources to identify trends and relevant learnings that inform safety improvement strategies.
- Develop and continuously improve Refinery Safety Systems to ensure SMS is compliant and up to date.
- Engages with internal stakeholder achieve consultation in developing and finalising safety system documents and processes.
- Oversight, monitor and report leading safety indicator performances.
- Monitors safety incident management process for assurance and timely completion.
- Delivers Safety Specific training, ie. Face to Face Inductions, Turn Around Training.

Continuous Improvement
- Lead and provide guidance to the contractor safety leads
- Leads the safety innovation liaises with Continuous Improvement leads across Viva.
- Develop innovative methods of communicating safety messages: Video messaging, QR codes readers.
- Active member of the Safety Coach Team supporting in safety field initiatives.
- Develops and drives first line safety assurance process.

**About you**:
You will have a passion for Safety with experience in reviewing the safety performance of contractors, ideally within a Major Hazard Facility. You will have excellent communication skills with the courage to intervene and stop work to ensure work is performed in accordance with Viva safety standards. Your experience will have a continuous improvement focus with experience in assessing and approve risk assessments for safe performance of work and writing procedure along with a strong operational knowledge across material risk / principal hazards and related control and verification practices.
