**The Role**
Under direction of the program lead, you will undertake a wide variety of complex tasks related to the Maritime Sustainment Divisions (MSD) Work Health Safety and Environmental (WHSE) and Quality Assurance program. The WHSE Officer is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve work outcomes within an integrated workforce as well as those included in high value, complex, sensitive naval maintenance delivery contracts. This requires an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. The work outcomes are delivered via:

- Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the MSD Work Health Safety Environment Plan, Supplier Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance program.
- Monitor internal safety compliance and assurance metrics, including the collation, analysis and identification of trends in WHS incident data.
- Provide WHSE continual improvement of practices to mitigate risks and Identify and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations related to WHSE matters to achieve MSD and Defence outcomes.
- Deliver WHSE support and advice to Business Units, agencies and other departments.
- As a team leader or member, provide support to Business Units for risk analysis, WHS supplier safety, environmental and Quality assurance planning and investigations.
- Research legislative, Defence policies and other organisational requirements and process to support investigations and recommend viable solutions and prevention strategies to address WHSE issues.
- Develop briefs, minutes and reports as required.
- Represent the Directorate of Maritime Work Health and Safety Environment as required.

**About our Team**
The Directorate of Maritime Work Health Safety and Environment is accountable for developing and sustaining MSD’s Safety and Environment Management Systems, and assuring MSD senior leadership that these systems are effectively implemented and maintained. Maritime WHSE Directorate is led by an EL 2 and is part of the Maritime Support Branch.
- Be able to work in an integrated workforce consisting of ADF and APS.
- Have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be required to:

- Research and analyse activities to identify and address WHSE risks.
- Fit to work on and around maritime construction sites.
- Prepare auditing and assurance programs and undertake WHSE and Quality assurance activities and report on audit and assurance activities.
