The Water Sector Analyst will work as part of the Water Markets Reform (WMR) program tasked to improve trust and transparency in relation to water trading in the Murray-Darling Basin and specifically, prepare the Bureau for its new obligations under Part 7A of _the Water Act 2007_ (Cth). In this capacity they will seek to understand business needs from Bureau and inter-agency stakeholders, synthesise results and ensure that the solutions, both technical and transformational, meets user expectations.

The Water Sector Analyst's role will support and be part of the transition of the WMR program resources and responsibilities to the BAU operations of the Water Regulations and Standards (WRS) section within the Bureau's Agriculture and Water program. This section supports the fundamental role of the Bureau under the _Water Act 2007_ and _Water Regulations 2008_ to lead and administer the collection and sharing of national water information. In addition to assisting with analytical aspects of operational system and water market support activities, the Water Sector Analyst will, through close collaboration, gain an in-depth understanding of the sections' and regulated entities' business processes, services, strategies, information systems and context in which they operate, rigorously seeking efficiencies and ensuring that regulatory requirements, standards and systems remain fit for purpose.

Core capabilities necessary to achieve the required results include information gathering and evaluation, seeking of consensus, decomposing high level concepts into details, abstracting low level information to compose a general understanding and separating user requests from the true underlying business needs. The Water Sector Analyst is also responsible for ensuring requirements are achievable and testable and will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to achieve results.
