View our Child Safe Policy. **The Opportunity**: - Support essential animal services at CSIRO’s Werribee Animal Health Facility - Inventory and facility operation management and animal husbandry duties within animal welfare regulations - Immerse yourself in an inclusive culture at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness As an Animal Services Support Officer with the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), you will support the day-to-day operation of this high-level biocontainment animal facility at our Werribee site which is a leading research facility in the delivery of PC2 research in animal disease control and animal vaccine research. As a part of a small team of dedicated people, this newly created role will provide assistance to facility operations and ensure the provision of materials and support, stock keeping and managing inventory and equipment, upkeeping of the facility and providing animal handling and husbandry support. You’ll assist in the day-to-day running of the facility and many tasks involved may require working alone. It is five days a week work with some weekend overtime if required. You should be open to accommodating ad-hoc requests to support other CSIRO animal facilities in your region if required. All staff working in this environment must pass security, medical and psychological checks, and be vaccinated against various diseases. **Your duties will include**: - Supplying and maintaining equipment, distributing and maintaining stocks of consumables and assembly and maintenance of animal caging and pens - Cleaning and preparing rooms before and after decontamination. - Remove and dispose of laboratory and animal waste in compliance with EPA regulations. - Providing animal handling and husbandry support. - Undertake maintenance activities such as changing air filters and transporting bins across the facility following using approved waste flow methods - Ensuring facility maintenance such as operation of steam boilers and on-site liquid waste treatment plant. - Ensuring paperwork specific to the facility is completed, including daily animal husbandry records, equipment monitoring logs and facility maintenance records. - Performing manual labour such as lifting heavy items and other physically demanding tasks. - Providing regular reports and updates to Senior Animal Technician and Facility Manager. **Location**: Werribee, Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), VIC **Salary**:AU$68k - AU$86k plus up to 15.4% superannuation **Tenure**:Indefinite / Full-time **Reference**:93077 **To be considered you will need**: - A Diploma in Animal Studies or relevant experience in a similar research environment. - A demonstrable understanding of the Victorian Animal Code of Practice for Animal Welfare, and the Australian Code for the Card and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes and how these are applied in a research setting. - Proven ability to understand animal welfare issues and rectify any identified issues without delay, including following appropriate reporting lines where necessary. - Demonstrated ability to deliver effective support to a team, responding appropriately to unexpected changes in circumstances. - Proven ability to proactively identify and resolve logístical challenges using creative solutions. - General “handy-person” skills, and a proven ability to perform manual labour such as lifting (>20kg) items safely (with training and lifting aids where appropriate) and performing physically demanding tasks such as deep cleaning.
