**The opportunity**
We’re seeking two **Animal Technicians** to join the Small Animal Facility team at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong.
This hands-on role supports vital research into zoonotic diseases within high-containment environments (PC1-PC4). You’ll be responsible for animal husbandry, sample collection, data recording, and promoting animal welfare in collaboration with scientists and veterinarians.
Weekend and occasional shift work may be required. Security clearance, health checks, and vaccinations are mandatory.
**Your high-level duties will include**:
- Perform high-standard animal husbandry and monitor animal behaviour daily.
- Assist with sample collection and support research involving infectious diseases.
- Promote animal welfare and ensure compliance with ethical protocols.
- Liaise with scientists and vets to support research and maintain accurate records.
- Help improve monitoring systems and uphold facility quality standards.

**Salary**: AU$73,567 to AU$93,630 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation
**Tenure & work schedule**: Indefinite; weekend work on roster basis; occasional shift work

**Essential criteria**
- A Bachelor of animal-related science or agriculture or demonstrated equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience with husbandry and handling a broad range of species, such as domestic livestock, laboratory animals, and/or wildlife.
- Demonstrated ability to perform technical procedures, such as collection of biological samples from animals.
- Willingness to work with animals infected with serious zoonotic disease agents, following appropriate training, including the wearing of personal protective equipment (biocontainment suits inclusive).
- A flexible approach to be available as part of the team roster for weekend and after-hours work.
- Demonstrated familiarity with the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.
- Ability to fulfill ACDP ‘Special Requirements’ as outlined in the position description.
