About the Role
- Provide reception duties including responding to telephone and face to face enquiries, assisting and redirecting where appropriate; arranging transport for patients; managing the movement and maintenance of medical documents, x-rays and medications; arranging follow up appointments, faxing, photocopying and taking accurate messages for staff and patients.
- Provide a high level of administrative support to the Nurse Unit Manager within the designated ward including the responsibilities of admissions, discharges and transfers of patients, filing, confidential record management, stationery management, correspondence management and typing.
- Manage the responsibilities of admissions ensuring patient information is correct and completion of Patient Election Forms meets Queensland Health requirements, including appropriate elections by compensable, private and ineligible patients are identified, and the appropriate documentation completed.
- Produce data reports relevant to the ward or area and action reports appropriately.
- Contribute to patient flow efficiencies on the ward and throughout the hospital by liaising with a range of staff to coordinate appointments, resources and movement of behalf of the patients.
- Complete 'Episode of Care Change' documentation and HBCIS system requirement.
- Manage and maintain patient records, referral, appointment scheduling and record tracking utilising both ERIC and CHIMS (Community Health Information Management System).
- Manage and maintain patient records including document filing and chart tracking utilising HBCIS.
- Participate in the review of policies and procedures in relation to the designated areas services development and operation.
- Arrange interpreter services for patients and family members as required by the medical and health teams.
- Interact in a sensitive, timely, effective and appropriate manner with members of the general public and service providers, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Work effectively and efficiently as a team member with mínimal supervision in a changing environment.
- Arrange appointments for internal and external medical and nursing clinics as required.
- Ensure the work environment and administrative equipment is maintained in a safe, working, clean and tidy manner, in accordance with Infection Control principles.
- Contribute to quality improvement activities, staff orientations and recommend changes to improve efficiency and quality of client service.
