**Who we are**
The Data and Analytics Office aims to strengthen the environmental information and science evidence-base accessible to the Department. We do this by providing environmental and spatial information products, advice, analysis and tools.

The Spatial Enablement Section manages and provides access to spatial platforms, data and tools to support evidence-based decision making across the environment function of the Department.

**The Job**
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced geospatial professional who will:

- lead a small team that manage and maintain the geospatial data holdings for geospatial users
- provide advice on geospatial data best practice and workflows
- manage the modernisation of our enterprise geodatabases to meet future department needs
- broadly support the work of the branch to enable the department to make evidence-based decisions.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
The following will be highly regarded:

- Demonstrated experience with managing spatial data and workflows associated with spatial analysis and data delivery, particularly using the Esri suite of software.
- Experience or understanding of data manipulation tools such as FME, SQL and python.
- Knowledge of cloud computing and storage is desirable.
- Experience or understanding of environmental, climate or water data would be an advantage.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to clearly convey an idea or concept in unambiguous and persuasive language.
- Proven ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and to anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.
- Ability to lead a small, multi-disciplinary team to drive meaningful change in the management and delivery of data to meet business needs.
- Demonstrated experience using or managing spatial data and software, scripting and analysis tools (ESRI suite, Python, SQL etc).

**Mandatory qualifications**
Relevant tertiary qualifications in GIS, biology, geography or a related discipline (e.g. environmental science, environmental modelling, remote sensing, engineering, IT, data science) or proven and extensive professional experience in geospatial data management is required.
