Overview: Review and manage surgery related invoices and supporting the accurate payment of expenses in line with the relevant fee schedules and orders.

**THE OPPORTUNITY**

The Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for the review and management of surgery related invoices and supporting the accurate payment of expenses in line with the relevant fee schedules and orders. Working as part of a collaborative team, the team will provide oversite and advice to the claims teams to support the thorough review and accurate payment of surgical and related invoices.

This will be a **permanent** position commencing **immediately **based in the **Sydney **office but also open to other EML office locations over the nation. There will be flexibility to work from home 3 days per week.

**YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Thorough review and management of surgery related invoices to support highly accurate payment of surgical expenses in line with the relevant fee schedules and orders.
- Inform and assist with the implementation of case management practices to ensure surgical and related requests are considered in line with State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) fee schedules and AMA, MBS, National Procedure Banding and National Prothesis fee schedules to ensure compliance with schedules.
- Inform and assist with the implementation of coding practice standards and policies to uplift the Claims Teams capability to review and scrutinise medical coding and invoices in relation to surgeries.
- Review and monitor billing practices of treating medical practitioners, specialists and hospitals to ensure accuracy of coding of a worker’s treatment is relative to payments.
- Liaison with relevant claims staff and treating health practitioners where incorrect coding is identified to assist with obtaining an updated, accurate invoice from the practitioner.
- Identify and assist with the delivery of individual and group coaching/learning and development programs. Expanding and honing EML’s capability in the management of coding/billing practices for surgery and related expenses.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and solutions that support Claims Teams capability uplift, improved system controls and provider engagement with regard to surgery and related expenses.

**ABOUT YOU**
- More than 2+ years demonstrated experience working as a Medical Coding Specialist within a health care setting (hospital and/or private health insurer) or Workers Compensation or CTP Insurer.
- Health Information Management degree or similar clinical coding degree or certificate desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding of the AMA, MBS, National Procedure Banding and National Prothesis fee schedules.
- Demonstrated experience using various healthcare coding resource materials.
- Demonstrated solid foundational understanding of anatomy and physiology.
- Advanced communications skills both verbally and in writing
- Minimum intermediate proficiency in Microsoft office suite
