The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Division**:
The Cyber, Digital and Technology Policy Division brings together a single Home Affairs focus on cyber, digital and emerging technology policy issues. We provide strategic advice that enables Government to make policy on issues such as the ethical use of biometrics and artificial intelligence, and on appropriate legal safeguards and oversight. We lead the development of cyber security policy and oversee implementation of _Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020_.

Our advice supports the Government to consider issues such as how supply chains for critical technology can be secure, or the research and industry partnerships needed to seize the opportunities that quantum computing offers, and tackling ransomware and other cyber challenges.

The Cyber, Digital and Technology Policy Division leads engagement with industry on cyber, digital and emerging technology policy issues. The Division engages internationally and domestically to help shape the development of biometrics to support national security, prosperity and democratic values. The Division also engages across the Commonwealth and with states and territories to strengthen Australia’s national identity system. We consider strategic issues on a whole‑of‑economy level, and design policy solutions. We do this in close engagement with industry partners and likeminded countries.

This strategic advice helps to protect Australians, maintain Australia’s sovereignty and enable Australia’s prosperity. It also supports Australia’s productivity and global competitiveness.

Cyber, Digital and Technology Policy Division is made up of:

- Technology Policy Branch
- Online National Security Branch
- Identity and Biometrics Policy and Strategy Branch
- Cyber Policy and Strategy Branch
- Identity and Biometrics Design and Delivery Branch.
